Nearly but not quite...

Croydon Athletic Youth 6 v 0 Maidstone United Youth
Ryman Youth League - Croydon Athletic Training Pitch. Att 46
Friday, 23rd May 2008

Apart from a short spell between the end of February and middle of April the young Rams had a great season. 1 win in 8 games during the period mentioned accounted for their 3 draws and 4 of their 5 defeats from the whole season and, with it, they surrendered the title. This final game saw Croydon needed a 14-goal win to move ahead of Staines Town but despite their effort it proved too much.

3 goals in each half were a good return and finished off what was still a fine season although if Leatherhead win in their final game they will edge Croydon into 3rd place. Harrison Carnegie and Dan Moody both added to their season's tally after already being jointly awarded the top-scorer awards.

It could have been more after what appeared to be a goal given by the assistant was overruled by the referee in strange circumstances. He also refused to give a penalty when Harrison was brought down by the 'keeper having got the ball over him. Even had this happened and despite their full effort, the 14-0 scoreline they needed was always beyond them.

The main pitch has had extensive work carried out on it already in preparation for next season causing the match to be moved to the training pitches.
