And the curtain finally falls...

England 2 v 0 USA
Friendly - Wembley Stadium. Att: 71,233
Wednesday, 28th May 2008

It all began back on 30th July with a Friendly at Whyteleafe in front of around 150 and it ended with another friendly at Wembley in front of over 71,000. In between there have been 80 games, many goals, high dramas, great disappointments and terrible lows. But all in all it has been a good season!

England were in control of the game from the start and rarely looked like they could be posed any trouble at the back. John Terry and Rio Ferdinand were imperious and David James looks solid in goal. Up front the verdict was not so good. Not enough creativity and not enough chances but it is the end of a hard season and there was nothing but national pride on the result.

After missing the crucial penalty in the Champions League Final last week John Terry was given the Captain's arm band and it was he who scored the goal; a header from a Beckham cross. Steve Gerrard got the second from a well worked move and the job was done.

A fitting end to a fine season. And it all begins again on July 12th!
