Hastings United 2 v 1 Boreham Wood
Ryman League Premier Division - Pilot's Field. Att: 375
Saturday 9th March, 2008
A weekend in Rye gives rise to the opportunity to revisit Pilot's Field and see a game from the Premier Division of the Ryman League. And it was a good game, apart from the first 10 minutes during which time I thought I may have made a mistake.
It is a very long time since I had seen Boring(Boreham) Wood and, with luck, it will be a long time until I see them again. They are mid-table but it looks like they have ground out that position rather than achieved it with any sense of ambition. Hastings are battling (excuse the pun) for survival and looked the most likely to score and so it was. Their 2 goals were good strikes with the 2nd, a neat turn and drive past the 'keeper, good enough to grace any game. The consolation reply was in the final minute and one the Hastings 'keeper will happily forget as it slid under his body from a 25 yard free kick.
You feel if they play like this then they may just be able to squeeze out to safety - if not then I will look forward to the Rams visiting next season.
