Crystal Palace 2 v 0 Barnsley
Championship - Selhurst Park Stadium. Att: 17, 459
Saturday, 15th March 2008
It was a solid performance and easily a deserved victory over 90 minutes. Barnsley looked like they would settle for a point but it was not to be and having gone behind there was no coming back.
It could have been different, however, as the visitors scuppered some early chances that could have seen then go 2-0 ahead in the first half but they were missed chances and Palace never looked back. Tom Soares deserved his man-of-the-match and scored a good first goal from over 20 yards. He was given space and made no mistake. The second goal was from James Scowcroft and made the game safe although the 'keeper had not been troubled in the 2nd half and hadn't really had to make a save in the whole game.
Palace are now 5 games undefeated (3 wins and 2 draws) amd having stumbled a bit are now back in the hunt just a place and a point off the play-offs. Indeed, as strange as it sounds with only 7 games to go they are only 10 points off automatic and, although unlikely, with the results that have been happening in recent weeks you just never know.
