We like to be beside the seaside...

Dover Athletic 3 v 0 Croydon Athetic
Ryman League Division One South - Crabble Athletic Ground. Att: 867
Saturday, 9th February 2008

It was always going to be an up-hill battle and that is just what it was (and I am not talking about the walk up to the ground). Dover Athletic are one of the big 2 or 3 clubs in the Division with good crowds, plenty of money (comparatively) and the ground that is suitable for several divisions higher. Croydon battled but never tested the home side and the 3-0 result was probably a fair reflection of the game.

The Ground is perched high on the side of a hill overlooking the Dover Rugby Ground that doubles as a car-park. The crowd is the biggest that Croydon is likely to play in front of this season and the ground probably the most complete - it looks like a ground that would not be out of place in the lower leagues of professional football. But, if it was that that mattered then they wouldn't be in Ryman League Division One South!

They must be a tip for promotion but the key will be a game in a few weeks time when they take on Tooting and Mictham United at Imperial Fields.

As for Croydon, I must say that I am beginning to have my doubts about the management. It is a thankless task but there are some strange decisions being made, not helped by regular injuries particularly to defenders. I am not calling for his head but I just get the feeling that if things don't change then it won't be long.
