Lacklustre but enough for a point...

Crystal Palace 1 v 1 Southampton
Championship - Selhurst Park Stadium. Att: 17,967.
Saturday, 2nd February 2008

On balance the game did not deserve a winner but it was a mistake by the fans' man-of-the-match Shaun Derry that gifted Southampton their point. Scowcroft had scored his 4th goal of the season against Southampton less than 20 minutes from the end to put the home team in the drivers seat. Palace could have extended their lead after a free-kick hit the post desperately seeking a toe to guide it in and then hit the bar after a shot was tipped by the Saint's 'keeper.

But a slip up presented Southampton with the chance to equalise and Stern John made no mistake. It was a disappointment after having been ahead.

Palace' new boy Neil Danns was on the bench and came on in the second half looking eager in place of Tom Soares. Soares has had his detractors over the last few seasons although successive managers, Dowie, Taylor and now Warnock, seem to want to make him a regular in the side. Danns will provide an alternative without a doubt.
