The half century...

Chipstead 2 v 1 Leatherhead
Ryman League Division One South - High Road. Att: 164
Saturday, 16th February 2008

The fiftieth game of the season but the first ever at Chipstead. They entered the Ryman League in the last couple of seasons having competed previously in the Combined Counties League the lack of a game for either Croydon or Palace left the opportunity for a first visit to High Road in the village of Chipstead.

The game was not a classic but was enjoyable. It was memorable as game taht neither side looked comfortable at the back and neither 'keeper seemed to be particularly competent between the posts, the Chipstead 'keeper looked like he had never played there before.

Leatherhead took the lead in the first half and it was a scrappy goal although well finished in the end although the 'keeper should never be beaten at the near post with such ease. Overall they edged the first half but after the break it was a different story and Chipstead looked most like scoring. When the first came it was equally scrapping, a shot spinning off the defender's backside and while everyone appealed for a corner the ball spun off the post and into the net.

The winner was better and Chipstead took all the points. Croydon have to play both these sides at home before the end of the season and on this form that should be 6 points for the Rams.
