Croydon Athletic 1 v 2 Kingstonian
Ryman League Division One South - Keith Tuckey Stadium. Att: 152
Tuesday, 30th October 2007
For the second game running the Rams suffered from losing the lead having started well and got themselves ahead. A 15th minute first half goal from Reggie Savage, a powerful header at the far post that someone his size should not have got so easily, saw Croydon 1-0 at half time. Their play was good although they are still missing several key players and their goal was rarely troubled by what is obviously an accomplished Kingstonian side. But they were not able to get the second goal and the visitors were always still in it.
A moment of madness just before half-time reduced both sides to 10 men as Gareth Graham got his marching orders together with the Kingstonian captain. Facing a two-footed challenge, Graham retaliated and both player had their early bath.
Having held out until the last part of the game Kingstonian hit back with 2 goals in 5 minutes, the second a penalty. It is difficult to imagine that Croydon can resist the pressure to find a replacement for their 'keeper. A good shot-stopper he becomes a liability when it comes to commanding his area and the penalty would not have happened if he had taken responsibility for collecting the ball.
On an even more sour note, my 'golden goal' ticket was for 16 minutes!
