Metropolitan Police 3 v 2 Croydon Athletic
Ryman Division One South - Ember Court. Att: 107
Saturday, 27th October 2007
The first half saw one of Croydon best performances of the season as they dominated the game and should have been further ahead with the game sown up. The goal that separated them came from Moses Ademola turning in a Frankie Warren cross at the near post. Warren played wide on the left and covered a lot of ground and put in some good crosses.
The second half, as you would expect, saw a rejuvenated Police team who began to press Croydon back into their own half. Then came a couple of minutes of madness and two corners that saw two goals for the home side. The first was allowed to bounce in the 6-yard box and went straight into the net while the second again landed close to the goal and was steered over the line by a grateful forward. Too many of Croydon's goals against have been able to be laid at the foot of the 'keeper whose abilities as a shot-stopper does not cancel out his liability on crosses.
It looked like Croydon had earned a draw, however. when Reggie Savage turned with the ball at the edge of the area and fired home off the post to bring them level. A draw would have been a fair result but with just minutes to go former Crystal Palace forward Daved Stevens popped up to reach the ball ahead of the 'keeper and steered it in for his second and Police's third.
