A welcome 3 points...

Crystal Palace 3 v 2 Sheffield United
Championship - Selhurst Park. Att: 14,131
Saturday, 22nd September

Their first win since the first day of the season has perhaps eased the pressure on Peter Taylor for awhile but the performance was still not convincing. At half-time there was no score and although they had been reasonably untroubled at the back the Palace forwards had not really tested the visitors goal either.

The second half saw many more chances with United taking the lead before Tom Soares fired home a well worked equaliser. Palace went ahead a few minutes later when a deflected cross left the 'keeper stranded and allowed Fletcher to put them ahead. But United were not finished and equalised with a delicate lob over the stranded Speroni with the defence too square.

The crowd were obviously restless and fearing the worst but Soares was fouled in the area and the referee pointed to the spot. Watson's spot kick saw Palace regain the lead and hold on for a victory.

Despite the win there are still concerns about Peter Taylor. Simon Jordon responded to a fan's shouts for him to act by telling him to shut up; but the crowd was the lowest for five years or more and is probably more condemning than the performance.
