My fourth and final friendly takes place on the coast as I get my first view of Croydon Athletic, and they performed well to beat the team from the higher league with a well taken goal.
Pilot Field used to be overlooked by their neighbours, St Leonards FC, before the two teams merged to form the present day Hastings United. Last seaon they won promotion out of the Rams division and will kick off next week in the Ryman Premier. On this performance it will be a long and barron season for United.
Croydon, on the other hand, looked comfortable and well deserved their win. A first half goal proved to be enough. The striker, whose name I do not yet know but who looked good, broke free and slid the ball passed the United keeper. Several new players mixed with some of last season's young heros gave some encouragement for the weeks and months ahead.
